Are you concerned about what a water leak can do to your home?

Eagle 360 water leak prevention

Have you ever thought about the damage a water leak can do to your home or business?  What would happen if you were away from your home for a period of time and you returned only to find the entire home an its contents with sever water damage due to a leaky pipe?  Well these are serious concerns that many people have brought to our attention and as a result we have had our engineers work on a solution that will protect your home and provide you with peace of mind. Introducing the Eagle 360 water leak detection system.

Eagle 360 - Everything is under controlThe Eagle 360 System has been designed to provide you with a system that constantly monitors your home for any potential problems and is ready in an instant to shut off the main water valve to your home to protect  your valuables against severe damage. The system will automatically notify you when a leak has occurred via text message and email to let you know that an incident has occurred and that action has been taken to prevent the worst from happening.

The system is set up with three main components; detect, control and notify. The system works in harmony to quickly prevent damage to your home and is on guard 24/7 to prevent any mishaps from occurring. At the heart of the system is the Eagle 360 Self Contained Hub. The Eagle360 self-contained hub is the first interactive and wireless smart home system dedicated to preventing water damage by activating
an electric shut off valve when the system detects water. The Eagle360 self-contained hub is ideally suited for houses, condos, retirement residences, commercial buildings and hotels.
A native Wi-Fi radio enables flexibility in locating the panel anywhere a wireless router receives a signal. When installed in common traffic areas in commercial applications, control panel functions are easily managed using the integrated LED keypad with voice-guided menu. In low-traffic areas, the panel can serve as a security control hub so that the mobile application, available for smartphones and tablets, can function as the primary method of control. An integrated Ethernet port facilitates communication with a central monitoring station over broadband connection and an optional cellular module is available for backup or primary reporting in formats including encryption protocols SIA and CID.

The Eagle 360 Self-contained Hub delivers a modern, water protection solution to homeowners… providing control and peace of mind!

Caractéristiques Détecteurs
The Eagle 360 self-contained hub comes standard with a Z-Wave radio, allowing users to control over 250 Z-Wave devices including lights, thermostats
and locks at home or away via mobile application available for iOS and Android devices. Offering advanced cloud features, industry-leading functionality and user-friendly operation, the Eagle 360 self-contained hub is the ideal choice for complete, cost-effective water damage prevention, security and interactive control.

The Eagle 360 Flood/Freeze Sensor

Another important component to the systems is the Flood/Freeze sensor which provides the detection for the Eagle 360 water leak detection system. The Flood/Freeze Sensor from Eagle is a small, unobtrusive device that alerts users when water is detected or if the ambient temperature drops below a set point. Due to its small size, the sensor can be placed under sinks, toilets or near hot water tanks making it ideal for monitoring these kinds of high risk areas, while reducing the potential of water damage. Within two seconds of detecting water, the Flood/Freeze Sensor transmits a signal to a valve closing off the water supply, as well as, triggering an alarm notifying the user’s smartphone or tablet, of a water leak. The freeze detection feature also reduces the possibility of pipes freezing by transmitting an alarm notification if the temperature in the surrounding area drops below 5 degrees Celsius.

The Eagle 360 Stainless Steel shut off valve

The Eagle 360 valves are the essential part of the Eagle systems. When a leak is received by the Eagle 360 Hub, a close signal is sent to the valve to shut off the main water line limiting the damages to a small puddle near the leak. Since 2010, the valve design has been improved to be the most reliable automatic shut off valve on the market. The valve body is all in stainless steel and certified NSF61, which makes it durable and not harmful for human water consumption. The full port ball valve design removes all water restriction, which means you won’t notice a new valve has been installed.

Eagle can help with hard water in your home

The effects of hard water when it comes to cooking and cleaning.

Hard water can negatively affect the taste of your food that you cook as well as the overall effectiveness of cleaning in your home. We have taken the time to review this subject with you so you can make a more informed decision about the water quality in your home.

Characteristics of Water Hardness

Potable water may possess soluble minerals such as calcium and magnesium that are of significant importance. These ions form precipitates with bicarbonates in water when it is heated, and with sulfates when water is evaporated from solution. This phenomenon is known as water hardness. The hardness of water may be expressed quantitatively in terms of parts per million (ppm) for calcium, ppm of calcium carbonate, and grains calcium carbonate per gallon of water. Based on grains of carbonate per gallon, water is classified as follows:

Hard water Eagle water treatment

Hard water is also sometimes classified as temporarily hard or permanently hard. Temporarily hard water is softened when the water is boiled. Soluble carbonates are converted to insoluble carbonates, and the unwanted ions are removed from the water. However, these precipitated carbonates form a deposit on equipment in homes and plants using hard water. This "scale" can act as an insulating layer against efficient heat transfer and may eventually clog valves and pipes in homes and food production facilities. These deposits can harbor bacteria, thus making it quite difficult to clean and sanitize equipment. Boiling cannot soften permanently hard water. Sulfates and chlorides of magnesium or calcium cause this type of water hardness.

Cooking with fruites and vegetables - Eagle eliminate Hard Water with our equipment
Cooking Fruits and Vegetables in Hard Water

When fruits and vegetables are heated (cooked) in water, the amount of calcium ions in the water will influence the textural properties of the products. For example, calcium ions may form insoluble salts (calcium pectates) that are beneficial for maintaining firmness in cooked fruits and vegetables. However, if there is an excessive amount of calcium ions in the water, the fruits and vegetables may become excessively tough, and dried beans and dried peas will be difficult to rehydrate when cooked.

Cleaning with Hard Water

Hard water is also a problem in households and manufacturing facilities when it influences the ability soaps and detergents to form lather or "suds." For these reasons, chemical water softener treatments have been developed to eliminate the calcium and magnesium ions. Washing soda ( a laundry aid), Na2Co3, an alkaline salt is often used to precipitate the calcium or magnesium ions as insoluble calcium or magnesium carbonate. Polyphosphate salts also soften water by binding calcium or magnesium ions.
Water-softening systems can be installed in homes and businesses as a way to remove unwanted ions from water. When this method is used, water is allowed to pass through a bed of insoluble granular material that removes calcium or magnesium ions from the water in exchange for sodium or hydrogen ions. When zeolites (hydrous silicates) are used, sodium ions from the zeolite are exchanged for calcium or magnesium ions of the water. When the chemical can bind no more calcium, the complex is regenerated by flushing it with a solution of sodium chloride, which removes the calcium or magnesium ions and replaces them with sodium ions. If resins instead of zeolite are used, hydrogen ions rather than sodium ions replace the calcium and magnesium ions.

eagle helps the community and RMHC Hamilton

A big thanks to Eagle for helping raise over $125,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities!

Eagle Water Treatment Systems and its Ontario distributors were proud to take part in the 2016 Ronald McDonald House Charities Hamilton Golf Tournament which helped to raise over $125,000.00 . This is a great experience for all and a very worthy cause as the money goes to help families have a home away from home during very challenging times. It is through sponsorship programs like these that we can all come together in our community to support these great community efforts.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Hamilton (RMHCH) is part of a network of 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada. We provide a “home away from home” for families of children who are seriously ill and being treated at nearby hospitals. Built in 1993 and located next to McMaster Children’s Hospital, RMHCH is independently owned and operated by Kid’s Care Oncology Central West Ontario and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, managed by a small staff team and supported by a full complement of dedicated volunteers.

RMHCH expanded from our original 15 bedroom home to a 40 bedroom house and reopened in the Spring of 2012 to serve more families in their time of need.

Try to imagine being a child with a chronic or life-threatening illness – frightened, hurting, questioning. Now try to imagine being a parent – short on answers, long on helplessness and scared beyond words. What both need most are each other. RMHCH provides families in crisis a home to everyday moments when life is far from ordinary.

Save our resources from the Nestle corporation

We need to preserve our natural fresh water sources from large corporations.

In a recent bidding war the Nestle corporation outbid the Township of Centre Wellington located in Ontario Canada for a private water well located near Elora Ontario. Now this may not seem a big issue to people not living in and around the Centre Wellington township but this well was being secured as a fresh water source for it’s residents and now it will end up in the hands of the Nestlé corporation to be used to fill bottled water, most of which will be exported out of the province.

This episode has created a much needed review by the provincial government in Ontario and Premier Kathleen Wynne said Friday her government will look for ways to put community needs ahead of bottled water corporations. “As we look at the water bottling industry, that has to be a question because we’re talking about what we could argue is our most precious resource,” she said. There is much pressure on our water, so as we have this discussion about our water, the status of and the treatment of water bottling companies, that needs to be taken into consideration.”

The premiere’s statements came after The Canadian Press reported on Nestle’s purchase of a well near Elora from a privately owned company. Nestle said the new site would supplement “future business growth” and support its main-production site in nearby Aberfoyle, where the company has a bottling plant that employs over 300 people.
The Township of Centre Wellington Mayor Kelly Linton said they wanted to purchase the well to keep its water supply “safe” from commercial water taking long into the future, and to give the fast-growing community “control of our water source.”

Eagle Water Treatment encourages citizens to ban together to protect our natural resources. To learn more on how you can get better than bottled water quality right from your tap give us a call at Eagle Water Treatment today – 1-800-363-6365 (Quebec Head office) or 1-866-427-7757 (for Ontario residents).

eagle water tastes better

Drink more water and become more productive!

You probably know it’s important to stay hydrated and putting bathroom breaks aside, it begs the question could drinking water actually make you more productive at work?

Many scientific paper have long suggested a possible link between serious dehydration and decreased ability to concentrate. Think about it, when you are very thirsty, water becomes a matter of survival, and our bodies simply have more pressing concerns than reading reports and filling out documents. A study published in 2014 in the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College’s Brain and Mind Research Institute found that mild dehydration—that is, water loss of less than 5 percent of our body weight—can suppress the increase in blood flow induced by, and necessary for, proper brain activity.

But recent studies suggest we don’t need to be crawling to the nearest watering hole for dehydration to begin to hinder the functioning of our brain. Even a slight amount of dehydration—just enough to make us feel a bit thirsty can hurt our ability to reach peak performance mentally and physically.

So the bottom line is to drink more water on a regular basis and we will be able to reach our peak performance and maintain it longer. The average recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water per day is a good measuring stick to try and live by. In order to drink more water why not make it taste better by adding a purifying system like the Eagle Water Treatment Reverse Osmosis system. This 5 stage water filtration system fits neatly under you kitchen sink and provides more than enough water on a daily basis for a family of 4. eagle plastic island

Can we save our oceans?

Around eight million tons of plastic enter the marine environment each year, and the figure is set to rise. The Ellen Macarthur Foundation estimates that 311 million tons of plastic were produced in 2014, which will double within 20 years, and projects that there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050. Plastic is a remarkably durable material, with a potential lifespan of centuries. It does not biodegrade, but photodegrades under sunlight, breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces, which attract toxins and heavy metals as they travel on the tides. Plastic is pulled together in the powerful, circling currents of gyres, but it is also found in Arctic ice, washing up on remote islands, and infesting tourist destinations. Over a couple of decades, people have figured out how to dump heaps of junk into the sea. Of the most crushing components of this contamination is that plastics takes a huge number of years to rot. Thus, fish and natural life are getting to be inebriated. Therefore the poisons from the plastics have entered the natural way of life, undermining human wellbeing. In the most dirtied spots in the sea, the mass of plastic surpasses the measure of microscopic fish six times over. This is a substantial bit of proof that leaves the issue of contaminated seas certain. It is disquieting that a greater amount of tidy up exertion is not occurring. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also know as the Pacific Trash Vortex or gyre, is located in the central North Pacific Ocean and is larger than the state of Texas. There are also garbage patches in the Indian and Atlantic ocean. The patches are defined as containing a higher amount of plastic as compared to surrounding oceans. To date, five patches in total have been discovered. Eagle Water Treatment supports and encourages the use of water protection signs

Eagle Water Treatment supports Drinking water protection signs.

Eagle Water Treatment supports and encourages the use of water protection signs. Water is such a precious resource we should all work together to save our drinking water from contamination. The North Bay-Mattawa municipality has created this great campaign which is the Drinking Water Source Protection program and it is designed to protect municipal drinking water sources and raise awareness that certain activities in specific areas may impact a municipal water supply. “We need to ensure that the wells that provide Mattawa with our municipal drinking water are protected. It’s important for the health of our community. These signs let residents, visitors and contractors coming into town know where the vulnerable areas are so that in the event of a spill in this area, we can act quickly to protect our drinking water,” said Dan Finnigan, environmental services manager for the Town of Mattawa.
A total of, 15 signs have been installed throughout the region on roads in North Bay, South River and Machar to mark the Drinking Water Protection Zones in those municipalities. More municipalities need to get on board with the same kind of program to help preserve our precious resource. It is important to work together to protect our MOST important natural resource – clean drinking water.
